The subject of Walaa' (affection) for believers and Baraa' (aversion) with disbelievers is one of the most important religious issues which is related to the Articles of Faith. Lack of this matter will certainly lead to coming out of the fold of Islam.
Unfortunately, the majority of Muslims nowadays follow and imitate disbelievers in customs, rituals and traditions which are against the teachings of Islam. It will be useful if they follow them in the field of technology and science.
This book sheds light on this topic to implant the spirit of joining and supporting the believers and warns them against the bad consequences of copying the same style of life of disbelievers.
We hope that Muslims will get benefited from it and adopt the necessary measures to act upon the orders of our religion.

Before you is a small treatise that was written by Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad Bin Abdul-Wahhaab, rahimahullaah. It follows on from his excellent work “The Three Fundamental Principles”. These “principles” that are expounded by the Shaykh are based in knowledge and recognition of the true Islamic monotheism (tawheed) and its opposite which is to associate partners with Allaah (shirk). The Shaykh mentioned these two great and mighty matters of tawheed and shirk due to their great importance and because many people have deviated regarding them. And the Shaykh has not mentioned these principles from himself or his own thoughts as many of those who have gone astray do. Rather he has taken these principles from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet, salallaahu’alayhi wassallam.
From the Back of the Book:
Explanation Of The Four Fundamental Principles Of Shaykhul-Islaam Muhammad Bin Abdul-Wahhaab (Died 1206 After Hijrah)

And the Shaykh has not mentioned these principles from himself or his own thoughts as many of those who have gone astray do. Rather he has taken these principles from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet, salallaahu’alayhi wassallam. So when you come to know and understand these principles, it will be easy for you to gain knowledge and recognition of tawheed, the reason for which Allaah sent His Messengers and revealed His Books, as well as knowledge and recognition of shirk which Allaah has warned against and explained its danger and harm in this world and the Hereafter. This is a very important matter, rather knowledge of it is more obligatory than knowledge of the rulings of the prayer, zakaah, the other forms of worship and the rest of the matters of the world. This is due to the fact that it is the foremost matter and the foundation of the Religion.
This book consists of several scholarly explanations of the classical work on Tawheed and Shirk. “The Four Rules”, which was written by the Imaam and Mujaddid of the 13th century, Muhammad bin ‘Abdil-Wahhaab, may Allaah have mercy on him.
It is called “The Four Rules” because it consists of four fundamental basics which one can use to distinguish a believer from a disbeliever and a polytheist from a monotheist. This treatise is considered one of the Imaam’s more significant works. Even though it may be more concise than some of his other works, it is just as comprehensive in terms of the information covered and points of benefit discussed.
Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan said: “If you come to learn and understand these rules, it will become easier for you to afterward understand the Tawheed that Allaah sent His Messenger with and revealed His books upon, and it will become easier for you to understand the Shirk that Allaah warned against and whose danger and harm in this life and the Hereafter He spoke about.”
In an effort to bring the most benefit to the English reader, translations of eight separate explanations of this monumental work have been included in this present publication. It is hoped that the inclusion of all these explanations will provide readers with a comprehensive understanding of this book and the subjects it covers.

Further a Muslim is commanded to adhere the Sunnah of Allaah’s Messenger, may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, and to avoid innovations and practices in the Religion that are not legislated in the Qur’aan and Sunnah.
Also discussed are issues of faith (Eemaan) and unbelief (Kufr), the definition of Eemaan and that which violates it from the affairs of Kufr and its definition. Many other topics related to the creed (‘aqeedah) are also discussed and explained in this valuable work.
The great scholar of Yemen, Shaykh Muqbil Bin Haadee, may Allaah’s mercy be upon him, said regarding this book, “This treatise deserves to be instilled in the students in the centres of learning due to the much good it contains since it is small in size and large in benefit.
