Note: the author mentions that this audio is not a step-by-step guide to ʿUmrah. There is one here entitled: A Simple Guide to 'Umrah and Madīnah by Abū Khadījah

15 points of reflection and benefit:

  1. al-Ikhlās (sincerity) - ʿUmrah like any other act of worship is required to be done sincerely for Allāh alone
  2. There is no Ikhlās except by shunning ar-Riyaa’ (showing off), don’t boast and take pictures (‘umrah selfies) in the middle of the acts of ʿUmrah! Don’t potentially change your intention or invent stoppages in an act of worship!
  3. Stay away from tasweer (image making), especially leading up to and during the actions of ʿUmrah, make it a time to connect to your Lord not to connect to your social media ‘followers’, do not allow any chance of insincerity or showing off to enter one’s intention, ʿUmrah should not be deemed an opportunity to increase one’s ‘social capital’ (popularity) or a time for ‘humble-bragging’ (using apparently humble language to actually show off where you are or what your accomplishing)
  4. Be devout in following the messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in establishing the rituals of ʿUmrah
  5. Have knowledge of what the messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did on ʿUmrah and in his life in general, there is no way to follow him except to have knowledge of what he taught us
  6. Knowing the virtue of ʿUmrah, the expiation of sins
  7. There is no harming and no reciprocation of harm (whilst in ihraam)
  8. Obey the people in charge of the Muslims, respecting and honouring the guidelines and protocols during the journey
  9. Travel for ʿUmrah in a group (3 or more) preferably
  10. The woman does not travel alone (without a maḥram) or as a group of women (without their maḥrams)
  11. There should be an ameer (leader) for a travelling group and you should obey the amīr (in the affairs related to the journey)
  12. Make a lot of duʿāʾʾʾʾ upon the journey
  13. Make ʿUmrah as often as you can but perform multiple ʿUmrah (but upon different trips)
  14. Hurry home (after ʿUmrah) and take care of the affairs of your family and your responsibilities
  15. Reflecting upon Sūrah al-ʿAṣr
