Benefit: What Exactly Is Harshness?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muqbil ibn Hādī al-Wādiʿī (رحمه الله) said: “Harshness is to forbid people from something Allāh himself has not forbidden them from, or it is to mandate something Allāh himself has not mandated upon them. This is harshness. As for adhering to the religion, then this is not considered harshness.”
