Benefit: Teach and Learn the Qurʾān Correctly

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz Āl al-Shaykh (حفظه الله) stated:

The teacher must recite then the student must follow suit, since the Qurʾān is learnt. [Similarly,] the Qurʾān was recited to the Prophet (ﷺ) then he (ﷺ) emulated its recitation, as the Mighty and Majestic said:

فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ
“So when We have recited it [i.e. when Jibrāʾīl have recited the Qurʾān to you, Muḥammad (ﷺ)], then emulate its recitation” [Sūrah al-Qiyāmah, 75:18].

This is how the Qurʾān is taught. As for correcting the student until he recites accurately [i.e. without hearing the teacher’s recitation], then this is incorrect. The teacher must recite then the student must follow suit.
