A Beautiful Sermon

A stunning sermon (khuṭbah) outlining the reason for which we were created and what the objective of our death must be.

Allāh Is Over His Creation and His Throne in Particular

  Abū ʿUways

In a highly beneficial khuṭbah, Abū ʿUways (raḥimahullāh) taught and insightfully explained the correct Muslim belief of Allāh's ʿUlūʾ, Allāh's Highness, Allāh's Loftiness, saying, "Allāh is above everything in general, and above His Throne in particular."

Answer Allāh and His Messenger When He Calls You to What Will Give You Life

  Abū Ḥafsah Kāshiff Khān

A khuṭbah (2015/03/27) given at Masjid al-Furqān (TROID) by our noble brother, Kāshiff Khān,  incuring the audience to be obedient to Allāh and his Messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam), a sign of īmān in the heart. The sermon was part of the Points of Benefit from Sharḥ al-Sunnah, the Outstanding Book of Imām al-Barbahārī seminar.

Benefit: O Muslims - Don't Sympathise with the Khawārij!

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

In a return visit to Toronto during the Fall of 2014, our noble brother Abū al-ʿAbbās Mūsá Richardson delivered an excellent khuṭbah in which he warned the Muslims from  the emotion-based recruiting tactics of ISIS, the false claimants to an "Islamic State" and leadership over the Muslims. He explained that they are Khawārij  (renegades) those who the Prophet Muḥammad (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) labelled "dogs of the hellfire". Our beloved brother stressed the fact that it is not permissible to feel sympathy for them in any way as they are the helpers of Shaytān and do not represent Islām in any fashion whatsoever.

Benefit: Reciting Verses Relevant to the Khuṭbah in Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
It has been reported that Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn (may Allāh have Mercy on him) was asked:

بالنسبة لبعض الخطباء إذا خطبوا ، يجعلون للخطب مناسبات، فمثلاً إذا جاء موسم الإسراء والمعراج يخطبون فيه ويبينون بعض الفوائد ويعرجون على بيان بعض البدع والأخطاء التي تقع في هذا اليوم، فما حكمه؟

Regarding what some khaṭībs do when they deliver their khuṭbahs, they give their khuṭbahs topics relevant to current events, if the time of Israa' and Mi'raaj comes around they speak about it, drawing benefits from it, warning from innovations and mistakes performed that day, what is the ruling on this?

It was reported that he answered:

This is good, meaning that a person makes his khuṭbah relative to certain occasions. This is good, and it is how most of the khuṭbahs of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) were. When something happened that needed to be addressed, he stood up and gave a khuṭbah (about it), even if it wasn't Jumu'ah. So for a person to give consideration to current situations and focus his khuṭbahs on them is good. For example, in Ramaḍān, he speaks about Ramaḍān, at Ḥajj time he speaks about Ḥajj, and in Rabīʿ al-Awwal he speaks about ḥijrah, meaning: he considers occasions, and there is no problem with that. It is even a proof that the khaṭīb has understanding and wisdom.

However, there is an issue here that some Imāms do, they deliver a khuṭbah about a topic and then read relative verses of the Qurʾān about that topic (in Ṣʿalát al-Jumu'ah). This is what is considered an innovation (bid'ah), since the Messenger (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) used to keep to the reading of Sab-bih (Sūrah al-A'lā) and al-Ghaashiyah, or al-Jumu'ah and al-Munaafiqoon, and he did not used to consider the subject of the khuṭbah (when choosing verses to read in the prayer).

Note: Although my (Mūsá Richardson's) consistent practice has been al-A'lā and al-Ghaashiyah, al-Jumu'ah and al-Munaafiqoon, or al-Jumu'ah and al-Ghaashiyah, I did what Shaykh Ibn ʿUthaymīn spoke of once in Toronto, in Sha'baan 1431 (Summer 2010), near the end of my stay there. I gave a khuṭbah about Ramaḍān and read the verses from Sūrah al-Baqarah about it in the prayer. At that time, I did not know anything against doing it. I would like to request that anyone who was there or has the recording should please take note of what is correct about this issue, and do not follow my mistaken practice.  And we ask Allāh for steadfastness upon His Path.  And Allāh knows best.

In Pursuit of Happiness

  Hasan al-Ṣumālī

A khuṭbah (sermon) delivered on a topic that has spawned countless books, philosophies, groups, fraternaties, organisations and movements - yet whether rich or poor, famous or not, the path to happiness is available to all, if we only look for it properly!

Our Life Is Not Without Purpose

  Abū Muʿādh Taqwīm Aslam

Ustādh Abū Muʿādh Taqwīm Aslam delivers a very poignant reminder in a khuṭbah delivered at Masjid al-Furqān (TROID) on the 16th Feb. 2018. An exhortation that this life is not without purpose, rather we will be called to account for every deed, be it small or large, so look to that which you send forth for tomorrow.
