A Clarification From the Shaykh, ʿAllāmah Ṣāliḥ Fawzān Concerning His Statement, "The Muslim Brotherhood Are From Ahl al-Sunnah"

All praise is due to Allāh, and Ṣʿalát and salām upon our Prophet Muḥammad, his family, and his companions.

My view with regards to the Muslim Brotherhood is that they are partisans (ḥizbiyyoon) who covet the attainment of rulership; and that they do not give concern to calling to the correcting of the creed (ʿaqīdah).
And they do not distinguish between their followers, between the Sunni (person upon the Sunnah) and the Bid'ee (person upon innovation).
As for the speech (found) in an audio recording that has come from me, then it is a slip of the tongue and does not change my stance concerning them in the slightest.

Benefit: Speaking Out against Innovators Is Hateful, Destructive and a Waste of Time?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

From the effects that the Ikhwān al-Muslimoon has had on the people is their claim that refutations are a fruitless pursuit that absorb the Muslim's time with something that hardens the heart and brings about no benefit. This viewpoint, which wasn't shared by the Imāms of the Salaf, has penetrated the hearts of some of the Muslims causing them to ignore or even hate warnings against innovation and innovators, not realising, that by this, they have opened themselves up to the calls to misguidance. It is a key focus of those who mix amongst Ahl al-Sunnah intending to bring the believer away from the manhaj of the Salaf. They utilise emotional arguments and convincing, bedazzling speech to convince him of their approach. Compare and contrast their ideas with that of the great Imām, Ibn Taymīyyah.

Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymīyyah, raḥimahullāh, said:

And the likes of the Imāms of innovations from the people of statements which contraḍīct the Book and the Sunnah or acts of worship which contraḍīct the Book and the Sunnahclarifying their condition and warning the Ummah against them is obligatory by agreement of the Muslims. This is to the point that it was said to Aḥmad Ibn Ḥanbal: ‘Is it more beloved to you that a man fasts, prays, and makes i’tikaaf or speaks about the people of innovations?’ He said: ‘If he stands and prays and makes i’tikaaf, then it is only for himself. If he speaks concerning the people of innovations, then it is for the Muslims; so this is better.’

So he clarified that the benefit of this is general for the Muslims in their religion, and it is from the perspective of jihād in Allāh’s path. Hence, (innovation brings about) the purging of Allāh’s path, His religion, His methodology, and His legislation. Warding off the injustice of these (innovators) and having enmity towards them due to that, is a communal obligation by agreement of the Muslims. Were there not one who Allāh establishes to defend (the religion from) the harms of these people then the religion would have been corrupted and its evil would have been greater than the evil of being seized by the enemy from the people with whom there is war. For these people, when they seize, they do not corrupt the hearts and that which they contain from the religion except at the end. As for those (innovators), they corrupt the hearts from the onset.1

During a TROID Seminar in 2002 entitled We Accompany the Sunnah Wherever it Goes, the noble brother and student of  Imām Muqbil ibn Hādī al-WādiʿīAbū ʿAbd Allāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī  answers a question about Khālid ibn al-Walīd masjid and the speakers they promote. The noble speaker explains how they promote Sharīf ʿAbdi Nūr (refuted by Shaykh Muqbil), Ṣāliḥ al-Munajjid (defender of Sayyid Qutb, Takfīrī, Khārijī figurehead, refuted by Shaykh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī and others), also, how the Imām (Bashir), "if you were to listen to his tapes you would think he is someone at war with the manhaj of the Salaf...not someone who is a person of ʿilm". He also explains how KBW is a masjid that propped up the speakers of Jamāʿah al-Ittihād (a political party in Somalia, built upon the principles of Sayyid Qutb and the Muslim Brotherhood, that spread discord and seperation, members of al-Shabāb evolved out of this group that was more prominent in the 80s and 90s).  Abū ʿAbd Allāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī makes mention of the recordings made between TROID and the scholars about Bashīr and KBW, for the people to take heed of these admonisions and to move on with the daʿwah. The speaker emphasises, "there are no Scholars in the West" and explains why they (Bashīr et al.) put down the scholars and put themselves up, calling themselves "shaykhs" on their websites and flyers, why?, "to keep your ignorant, to keep you in darkness". The speaker concludes by imploring those confused to learn the books of tawḥīd, learn the books of sunnah, be with righteous companions who traverse the same path (a key point as it is often old friends and allegiances that stops people from leaving ḥizbiyyah). Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī (a Somali himself) mentions that many people will refuse to leave the ḥizbiyyah of KBW because "its my people," this being the trap of prefering nationalism over the truth.

Establishing the fact that every group that opposes Salafīyyah in any aspect of the Religion is from the seventy-two sects that are destroyed, and every individual who opposes Salafīyyah in any aspect of the Religion is upon misguidance.

Firstly, I love you for the sake of Allāh and I ask Allāh to preserve you just as He preserves all of His righteous servants. Here (in France), the French Government is appealing to the Salafīs for their cooperation in capturing the Takfīrists[1]. In all actuality they are requesting that we work alongside them to catch these individuals. Is this something that the religion of Islām deems permissible or not -may Allāh bless you?


Truthfully, the Takfīrists are considered to be enemies of Islām and enemies of the Muslims as they are responsible for actions that have harmed the Muslims. It is ok for (the Muslims) to point the (authorities) in their direction and to clarify what they are upon if they are certain about these people.[2]
