Benefit: Using Zakāt al-Māl to Benefit the Masjid?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

A question was posed in the Kashf al-Shubuhāt class on zakāt al-māl:

[Q]: A masjid here in Canada claims they have "fatwas" from a group of scholars permitting Canadians and those in non-Muslim lands to give their zakāh to the masjid, meaning that it can be used to build or further the masjid. Who are the ones eligible for zakāt al-māl, and could it be ever allowed for mosques to keep the money of zakāt al-māl?

The question above is addressed in the audio benefit. Also, one should read Citations of Consensus Regarding the Spending of Zakāh on General Charities and Shaykh Ibn Bāz on Spending Zakāh Money to Build Masjids and Schools.

Benefit: Which Is Worse, Fornication or Abandonment of the Prayers?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Question: Allāh has prohibited us from fornication and from abandoning the prayers. Which sin is worse?

Answer:
Abandoning the prayers is a greater sin than fornication because it takes one out of the fold of Islām. Fornication is from the greatest of sins, but it does not take one out of the fold of Islām as long as one does not hold it to be permissible. The fornicator is punished with the legislated punishment if his matter reaches the authorities.

Benefit: Who Is Jibrāʾīl?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Q: Who is Jibrāʾīl (Gabriel)?

Shaykh Fawzān: Do you not know who Jibrāʾīl (Gabriel) is? Jibrāʾīl (Gabriel) is the best of the angels, the trustworthy one who was entrusted by Allāh with the revelation.

نَزَلَ بِهِ الرُّوحُ الْأَمِينُ
Which the trustworthy Ruḥ [Jibrāʾīl (Gabriel)] has brought down
[Sūrah al-Shuʿarāʾ, 26:193]

This means that the Qurʾān was sent down by the trustworthy spirit, who is Jibrāʾīl (Gabriel) peace be upon him.

عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ
Upon your heart (O Muḥammad)
[Sūrah al-Shuʿarāʾ, 26:194]

Meaning upon the heart of the Messenger—peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him—so he is the trustworthy spirit—peace be upon him—and the chief of angels.

Benefit: Youth Who Claim to Love Salafiyyah Whilst Criticising Salafī Centres and Their Elders?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Questioner: How do we deal with youth who love Salafīyyah but speak ill of the Centre’s administration and those who established/organised it, also they do not accept advice from their elders.

Answer: The Shaykh began by saying, “No, tell them do not do this, it is not from the akhlāq of the Salafīs, they have opposed the Salafīs (in this matter) the Salafī follows the manners of the Salaf. This is from the affairs of Ahl al-Bidʿah”…

”...Are they not the best people you can go to (in your land)?  Is there better than them which you can go to (in your land)? If there is then go...”

The Shaykh then went on to ask those who create fitnah and speak ill of the brothers at the markaz, do you want to take their places and make yourself look like you are more knowledgeable then them? If you have knowledge then proceed with it but if you do not have knowledge then learn!

Questioner: No Shaykh, these youth don't have knowledge, they are new to Salafīyyah!

Shaykh Ḥasan continued:

“They don't know anything, if they knew and understood Salafīyyah, then they wouldn't speak like this. If there are scholars with you, then learn from the scholars and stick to them, may Allāh reward them.”

The shaykh went on to emphasise learning manners and possessing knowledge so that the people respond to your daʿwah and say the Salafīs they are polite and knowledgeable people, then they will want to be like you.The Shaykh said let him talk to me on the phone (the ones who are causing trouble and speaking ill of the brothers at the centre) I will respond to them.

Brotherhood in Islām

  Shaykh ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Burjiss

A beautiful and heart warming lecture given by Shaykh ʿAbd al-Salām ibn Burjiss (raḥimahullāhu taʿāla) on the importance of brotherhood between the believers. He gives wonderful examples of the Companions from amongst the Muhājirūn and the Anṣār, and the forging of their brotherhood ties by the Messenger of Allāh (sallallāhu ʿalayhī wa-salām), and their sacrifices for one another. Most importantly, he emphasises the importance of brotherhood and its connection to dāʿwah al-Islām and its link to the elimination of racism and prejudice. This is followed by a highly beneficial Q&A session.

Foundations of the Salafī Daʿwah

  Imām Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī

A three-part lecture expounding upon the foundations of salafiyyah [أصول الدعوة السلفية] by the illustrious scholar, Shaykh Muḥammad Nāṣir al-Dīn al-Albānī. The book, Fundamentals of the Salafī Methodology - An Islamic Manual for Reform (TROID Publications) is based primarily upon this recording.

Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī: The Speakers Promoted by Khālid ibn al-Walīd Mosque

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

During a TROID Seminar in 2002 entitled We Accompany the Sunnah Wherever it Goes, the noble brother and student of  Imām Muqbil ibn Hādī al-WādiʿīAbū ʿAbd Allāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī  answers a question about Khālid ibn al-Walīd masjid and the speakers they promote. The noble speaker explains how they promote Sharīf ʿAbdi Nūr (refuted by Shaykh Muqbil), Ṣāliḥ al-Munajjid (defender of Sayyid Qutb, Takfīrī, Khārijī figurehead, refuted by Shaykh Rabīʿ ibn Hādī and others), also, how the Imām (Bashir), "if you were to listen to his tapes you would think he is someone at war with the manhaj of the Salaf...not someone who is a person of ʿilm". He also explains how KBW is a masjid that propped up the speakers of Jamāʿah al-Ittihād (a political party in Somalia, built upon the principles of Sayyid Qutb and the Muslim Brotherhood, that spread discord and seperation, members of al-Shabāb evolved out of this group that was more prominent in the 80s and 90s).  Abū ʿAbd Allāh Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī makes mention of the recordings made between TROID and the scholars about Bashīr and KBW, for the people to take heed of these admonisions and to move on with the daʿwah. The speaker emphasises, "there are no Scholars in the West" and explains why they (Bashīr et al.) put down the scholars and put themselves up, calling themselves "shaykhs" on their websites and flyers, why?, "to keep your ignorant, to keep you in darkness". The speaker concludes by imploring those confused to learn the books of tawḥīd, learn the books of sunnah, be with righteous companions who traverse the same path (a key point as it is often old friends and allegiances that stops people from leaving ḥizbiyyah). Ḥasan al-Ṣumālī (a Somali himself) mentions that many people will refuse to leave the ḥizbiyyah of KBW because "its my people," this being the trap of prefering nationalism over the truth.

Is it Permissible for a Brother to Marry a Righteous Muslim Sister Despite His Father's Disapproval?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb al-Banná

[Q]: The first question our brother goes on to ask is, "We have a young brother here with us and he’s 18 years of age, he would like to marry a sister who is not from his tribe but his father refuses him whilst his mother and father have divorced and he’s living with his mother, what should he do?"

Preparation for Ramaḍān

Shaykh ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm al-Bukharī

“We sent it [this Qurʾān] down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Sūrah No: 97)] in the month of Ramaḍān, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship].” (Sūrah al-Dukhan, 44:3)
