HearMe: Broadcasting the Summer Islāmic Courses was created by troid.ca admin

During this year’s summer courses with Mūsá Richardson, we are introducing live webcasts and presentations. Registered students will be able to access a private webpage and be able to listen to and view the live feed from Toronto. In addition, we will be able to share notes and documentation live and in real-time. What is HearMe?

HearMe is a professional solution for webcasts and presentations. It is a sister-company of PalTalk and uses similar technology only with much higher quality audio and video feeds. The features are just as easy to use, the same basic PalTalk layout only it is entirely web-based, no software to install and has absolutely no yucky banners or advertisements. In addition, it supports group conferencing (several mics at once) and unlike PalTalk, you will be able to see the video feed without purchasing a premium account (a PalTalk requirement for seeing video). We will also be able to share PDFs and other presentation documents in real-time with you during the classes, giving you a real classroom feel. If you have used PalTalk before, then you will recognize the HearMe environment quite easily.

From the Benefits
H.264 video technology – highest available quality
Multi-user video feeds
12 frames per second provides real time motion
Full duplex audio utilizing our patented VoIP technology
Hands-free speaking with voice-activated audio controls
Multi-channel mixing allows up to 3 simultaneous speakers (creates more natural, interactive conferencing experience)
Share any application on our computers with you
Transfer files to individual participants
Send private text messages to meeting attendees

I’m a Registered Summer Course Student, How Do I Access the Room?
Check your email (the one you signed up to the courses with) for the private URL to access the courses with. The URL will be emailed out to all registered students before Tue. 24th of June 2008 insha’Allah. There will be a test-run on Wed. June 25th @ 7PM-9PM EST for those who want to sign in and test out the room. This opportunity is being provided to make sure you are able to login and answer any questions you may have.

I Like PalTalk, Why Not Use It?
PalTalk does not allow you to view the video stream (without purchasing an upgraded account) and is a free product of very low quality. After consultation with PalTalk representatives, they advised us that the best solution would be their other new product HearMe which is a professional solution that is much more feature-rich and we will all benefit from avoiding PalTalks banners, advertisements and interference from harassing users who stop by to make trouble etc. It is a much better solution.

Can I Use My PalTalk Username on Hearme?
Yes and No. Even though HearMe and PalTalk are related, you will need to create an account on Hearme. Please create exactly the same account as the PalTalk username you provided in your registration to avoid complications. You will be able to create your account when we send out the private URL for the courses.

Will HearMe work on Windows Vista?
To run HearMe on Windows Vista, Internet Explorer must be run as an Administrator. For help with how to run Internet Explorer as an Administrator, click here.

Some important HearME FAQ:

Q: What are the minimum and recommended system requirements for using HearMe?
Hearme's minimum requirements are 256MB of RAM and any processor that supports the SSE2 instruction set. These include Intel Pentium 4 and later processors, and with AMD Athlon 64 and Opteron and later processors. For optimum performance, we recommend Pentium 4 2.0 GHz with 512 MB RAM.

Q: What browser should my clients and I use?
We recommend using Internet Explorer (IE), however any browser that fully supports ActiveX controls should work just fine.

Q: What special equipment is needed to hear the audio?
You will need speakers or a headset connected to the 'speaker out' connector of your sound card to hear audio. Most computers are shipped this way and if you can hear other sounds on your computer you should be able to hear audio with no problem.

Q: Do I need a web cam to see video?
No camera or device is needed to view video within the conference. Please note that not all conferences are video enabled. Please check with the conference administrator to see if the conference you are attending is video enabled.

Q: I am prompted to install something by my browser!
HearMe is a plug-in for your browser that allows you to attend multimedia enabled conferences over the internet. To do this, HearMe installs itself as a plug-in for your browser the first time you visit a HearMe enabled web site. Allow the ActiveX plug-in to install by clicking on the alert bar at the top of your browser window or selecting 'install' if an alert box appears.

Q: Will HearMe work on a dialup connection?
The amazing HearMe technology will work just fine on a dialup connection 33kbps or above. Video speed is automatically reduced to preserve voice quality on slower connections.

Q: Will HearMe work with Windows Vista?
To run HearMe on Windows Vista, Internet Explorer must be run as an Administrator. For help with how to run Internet Explorer as an Administrator, www.hearme.com/vista_help.html .
