1998 TROID Street Daʿwah Promo was created by troid.org admin
18 years ago this winter, TROID produced a promo video showing our efforts in street daʿwah. Weekly, and sometimes more, brothers would visit the Toronto Public Library in Downtown Toronto and other areas to call Torontonians to Islām. The very first project that TROID was formed for, was street daʿwah. The very first centre we opened, was to facilitate an office and daʿwah centre to give daʿwah, primarily to non-Muslims. TROID, today, is a much larger organisation with broader objectives, however, street daʿwah remains an important focus almost two decades on, as our North American Flyer Drive would suggest.

Here are some screen captures from the promo video:

As you can see, even in a pre 9/11 world, refuting terrorism was still a focus. The Salafīs have been refuting terrorism before it was a buzzword in the mainstream media.

This was TROID's first centre, located at 1888 Wilson Ave., in Toronto's west-end.

This was the Sisters Side. To the left you can see some boxes (likely Qurʿān) and to the upper left is a folding sign used for street daʿwah.

This was the entire catalogue of TROID audio at the time, there was no website till July of that year (1998). The only access to audio was to purchase dubbed cassettes for $2. These cassette sales were the sole contributor (along with donations) to paying the rent, which was approximately $600 at the time, something we struggled to attain.

The book case was the first attempt at TROIDStore. We had about 15-20 book titles in total. At the time, a Salafī library had 5-20 books, quite simply because there wasn't even 50 Salafī titles in circulation and Allāh knows best. Salafi Publications had just begun to publish books. TROID Publications didn't arrive until 2000 with The Creed of the Four Imāms, now entering its 3rd print in shāʾ Allāh.

The very first flyer of the very first TROID project. Street Daʿwah: "Tauhid". We printed and distributed 20,000 of these blue and white pamphlets across Toronto. Our phone number (then 416.744.1479) and email ( then This email address is being protected from spambots.
