The ʿAqīdah of al-Rāziyyān is authored by the two Rāzīs. They are:
Abū Zurʿah al-Rāzī:
ʿʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Yazīd ibn Farrūkh. He was born after the year 200 AH and died in the year 264 AH. He was the Imām, the noblest of memorisers and the muḥaddith of Rayy. He heard from Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal.
Abū Bakr al-Khatīb said, “He was a wise Imām, a precise memoriser who reported a great deal...he sat with Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal and revised narrations with him and a number of the people of Baghdād narrated from him: Ibrāhīm al-Harbī, ʿAbdullāh ibn Aḥmad and Qāsim al-Mutarriz.”
Ibn Hibbān said, “He was one of the Imāms of the world in ḥadīth, along with his adherence to the dīn, his piety and his constancy in memorisation, revision of narrations and his abandonment of this world and what the people are involved in.”
Abū Hātim al-Rāzī:
Muḥammad ibn Idrīs ibn al-Mundhir ibn Dāwūd ibn Miḥrān. He was born in the year 195 AH and died in the year 277 AH. He was the Imām, the Hāfiẓ of Rayy.
Aḥmad ibn Salamah al-Naysābūrī said, “I have not seen anyone who was a better memoriser of ḥadīth, after Isḥāq and Muḥammad ibn Yahyá, than Abū Hātim al-Rāzī nor anyone who knew its meaning better.”
Al-Hāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn Khirāsh said, “Abū Hātim is from the people of trustworthiness and understanding.”
Ḥibatullāh al-Lālikāʾī said, “Abū Hātim was an Imām and a careful and precise memoriser.” And al-Lālikāʾī mentioned him as one of the Shaykhs of (Imām) al-Bukhārī.
They were both from the city of Rayy.
