Benefit: Encouraging Our Youth To Be Enthusiastic about Islām

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣālih al-ʿUthaymīn said: In reality, that which is most upright, is that we encourage our youth to be enthusiastic about Islām, not for their countries, because having enthusiasm for a country or nationality and the likes of it is not required when you have enthusiasm for the religion of Allāh, the Mighty and Exalted.

It is for this reason that the companions (raḍī Allāhu ʿʿʿanhum) left their countries after the Islamic conquests, they left to live in Kūfa, Baṣrah, Shām and Miṣr, because the Muslim country is the one that is built upon its religion.

Benefit: The Grave - Its Rewards and Punishments

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Question: When the deceased is buried, does his soul return to him in his grave, and if it does, until when will the deceased be punished in his grave, or will his soul go up to the highest heaven? Also, will the punishment (in the grave) stop or will it be continuous until the day of resurrection? Benefit us, clarify to us whether those who died generations before have remained in a state of punishment (in their graves until today) or are they waiting until the day of resurrection?

Answer: The grave is either a garden from the gardens of paradise or a pit from the pits of the hellfire, as has proceeded in the narrations from the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). So the believers are in a state of joy in their graves and their souls are transferred to paradise delighted. The souls of the believers will be flying in paradise, eating from its fruits and Allāh will return them (the souls) to their bodies whenever he desires, during questioning and other than that. So their (the believers) souls and bodies will be in a state of joy forever, they will receive a share of joy in accordance to that which Allāh decrees.

As for the disbelievers, they will be in a state of punishment and their souls will be punished as well. Their bodies will receive their (decreed) proportion of punishment. As for how long it will be and how it will be, this is for Allāh (i.e. Allāh knows best), we do not possess knowledge of this. Allāh knows how long (they will be punished). What we know is that the believers bodies and souls will be in a state of joy and that the disbelievers will be in a state of punishment. We have not been informed about the finer details of the punishment (i.e. how long etc.) except that he (the disbeliever) will be punished along with his soul and body.

The disobedient one’s fate will be delivered according to the will of Allāh, he will either be punished in his grave, forgiven, or punished at certain times. His affair is with Allāh the Almighty and Exalted. The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) informed us that he passed by two graves, one of which (the inhabitant) was being punished for tale-carrying and the second for being negligent of cleansing after relieving himself. So the disobedient ones are in danger if they die upon disobedience without repenting, they are threatened with punishment but they may be excused due to their many good deeds or other reasons. If they are punished, Allāh knows best how they will be punished, its duration, when it will stop, this is for Allāh the Almighty and Exalted, He is the one who knows everything.

Benefit: The Ruling on Female Doctors Tending to Male Patients and Vice-Versa

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Question: What is your opinion on female dentists tending to men? Is it permissible, knowing that there are male dentists in the same region?

Answer: We have attempted and tried many times with the authorities to segregate the male doctors for the men and the female doctors for the women, in the field of dentistry and other than it (from the health sciences), this is (how it should be in) truth. The woman is an ʿAwrah (vulnerable, i.e. to exposure, if uncovered) and a fitnah (trial) except those who Allāh bestows his mercy upon.

So that which is required is to assign female doctors specifically for the women and male doctors specifically for the men except in cases of necessity, like if a man were sick and there were no male doctors available, then there is no problem (i.e. if a female doctor tends to him). Allāh mentions:

 وَقَدْ فَصَّلَ لَكُمْ مَا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِلا مَا اضْطُرِرْتُمْ إِلَيْهِ
While He (Allāh) has explained in detail to you what He has forbidden you, excepting that to which you are compelled.
[Surah al-Anʿām, 6:119]

So for other than necessity’s sake, it is required for there to be male doctors for men and female doctors for women, and for them to be in separate quarters, or hospitals specifically for the men and vice-versa so that we may avoid trials and harmful free-mixing, this is what is required from us all.

Benefit: An Example of Sincerity in the Daʿwah of Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb’s mentions in his letter to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Suwaydī (one of the scholars of Iraq at that time): I convey to you that I am a follower and not an innovator. My creed and religion that I worship Allāh with is the methodology of Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-Jamāʿah which the leaders of the Muslims were upon, like the four Imāms and those who follow in their way until the day of judgement.

Likewise, I have clarified to the people (the importance of having) sincerity towards the religion for the sake of Allāh, and I have forbade them from calling upon the dead or the living and associating them as partners with Allāh in acts of worship the likes of slaughtering (sacrificial animals), making a vow, having reliance and trust, prostrating and other than this from the rights of Allāh that no angel or messenger has any right to be associated in with Allāh. This is what all the messengers—from the first of them to the last of them—have been calling to, and this is what Ahl al-Sunnah wa-al-Jamāʿah are upon.

Benefit: A Warning against Shaving the Beard

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz (raḥimuhullāh) said: As for the beard, it is impermissible to shave it or take anything from it at any given time; rather it is an obligation to let it grow due to that which has been affirmed in the Ṣaḥīḥayn (Bukhārī and Muslim) on the authority of Ibn ʿUmar (raḍi Allāhu ʿʿʿanhu) who said, the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said:

Oppose the polytheists, lengthen the beard and clip the moustaches.

Likewise, Imām Muslim collected in his Ṣahīh, on the authority of Abū Hurayrah (raḍi Allāhu ʿʿʿanhu) who said, the prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said:

Trim the moustaches and grow the beards, oppose the Fire-Worshipers (Majūs).

This calamity has become greater in this time of ours due to many of the people opposing this Sunnah and waging war against (growing) the beards, and them being pleased with looking like women and disbelievers (by not growing their beards), nevertheless, even those who associate themselves with knowledge and educating [fall into this calamity of trimming the beard]. Verily to Allāh we belong and to Him we shall return. We ask Allāh to guide us and guide all of the Muslims to accept the Sunnah, adhere to it and call towards it, even if most of the people turn away from it. Allāh (alone) is sufficient for us, and He is the best disposer of affairs, there is no might nor power except with Allāh the Most High and Exalted.
