Benefit: Actualise the Sunnah - Break Your Fast With Dates

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

Shaykh Khālid ibn Ḍaḥwī al-Dhufayrī mentioned:

We would like to shed light on an error many of those who break their fasts fall into, due to their lack of attention. It is that people have become accustomed to breaking fast by drinking. They may drink milk with dates while milk is a liquid and dates are solids. Liquids enter the stomach before dates. Therefore, what has he broken his fast with, with milk not dates. So make sure to eat, chew and swallow dates (first) so that they can reach your stomach, so that you may be one who actualises the Prophetic Sunnah.

TROID Renovation Drive

TROID Renovation Drive 1440 AH | 2019 CE

2018/12/11

This year, we are undertaking the important task of renovating the TROID Centre. The centre includes Masjid al-Furqān, library, troid.store (non-profit), workshop and office space. The centre is host to the 5 daily prayers, weekly lectures, lessons and workshops for children and adults, approximately 10 conferences yearly as well as marriage services, counselling, daʿwah displays and much more.

In 2004, we moved to our location at 874-A Weston Rd. and renovated the entire warehouse space, converting it into a functional masjid and Islamic centre as well as creating toilets, shower and wūḍūʾ facilities. This work cost close to $60,000 and facilitated all our daʿwah activities locally and online for the past 14 years.  Now, the centre is in need of important repairs such as:

- wall repairs, plastering and painting of the entire building
- 4' wood paneling around the brothers and sisters muṣallá and high traffic areas
- carpet for the brothers and sisters muṣallá (and library)
- laminate flooring for office space
- high traffic double doors for the brothers muṣallá (to keep heating/cooling in, energy efficiency)
- and more...

A list of needs, prioritised in phases is listed below. We appeal to the local and international community to support this important need as TROID is an active participant in the local, regional and international daʿwah scene. Visit us at 874-A Weston Rd. in Toronto to learn more about this project or view our daʿwah efforts online: troid.org, troid.store, islaam.ca, fb.com/troidorg, twitter.com/troidorg, youtube.com/troidtube

Videos and updates regarding renovation needs to follow in shāʾ Allāh.

Benefit: Is It from the Sunnah to Eat an Odd Number of Dates in Ramaḍān?

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

[Q]: I heard that the fasting individual must break his fast with an odd number of dates like 5 or 7 etc. Is this obligated?

Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn رحمه الله:

It is not obligatory to break one’s fast with an odd number of dates like 3, 5, 7 or 9. Rather, it is not even from the Sunnah except on ʿĪd al-Fiṭr. It has been authentically established that the Prophet ﷺ would not depart for prayer on the day of ʿĪd al-Fiṭr until he had eaten an odd number of dates. As for other than this occasion, the Prophet ﷺ would not intend to eat an odd number of dates.

Benefit: The Blessing of Safety and Security

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy

  Shaykh Ṣāliḥ al-Fawzān:

And (remember) when Ibrāhīm said, "My Lord, make this (Makkah) a secure city and provide its people with fruits - whoever of them believes in Allāh and the Last Day."
[Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:126]

He (Ibrāhīm) began with supplicating for security before supplicating for provision because security is a necessity and the people would not be able to enjoy their provisions in a state of fear. Actually, it is not even possible to attain provisions in a state of fear.
