How Precious Time is to the Servant

Al-ʿAllāmah ʿAbdullāh al-Bukhārī

You must be very careful about your time and how it is used. Use it in what benefits you. A day will come and you will be asked about how you used your time! There is also a small beneficial question and answer session at the end.

The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ͑alayhī wa-sallam) said: Two blessings are wasted by the people: health and free time. From the Ḥadīth of Muʿadh ibn Jabal: The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ͑alayhī wa-sallam) said: A servant’s two feet will not move on the Day of Judgement until he is questioned about four (things): His youth, how he spent it, his knowledge, how he acted upon it, his wealth, how he earned it and how he spent it, and his body, how he used or wasted it.

When looking at this Ḥadīth, you will find that half of these matters revolve around time: age, youth and how he used it.

Al-Baghawī mentions that al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī said: I came across people who were more stingy about their time than their money.

From the best way to utilize your time is by obtaining beneficial Islamic knowledge.

Q&A Session

[Q1]: A sister asks, if she disobeyed her husband is she considered to be an oppressor to her husband? If so, are the actions (of worship) she does accept by Allāh?

[Q2]: How much time should a person use to seek knowledge?

[Q3]: Can you advise one that has two or three wives, in this time and country, where many hours are spent on taking care of their families
