A series of questions from the Salafī community in Toronto, Canada posed to the Imām of Yemen, Shaykh Muqbil Ibn Hādī al-Wādi’ī (raḥimahullāh). The answers bring clarity to a variety of issues troubling the community.

The Questions:

[Q1]: Is it permissible to distribute pamphlets and recorded Islamic cassettes to the Christians and the Jews?

[Q2]: Is it permissible to give daʿwah to the kuffār women even though they may be ‘clothed but naked’?

[Q3]: There is a man (Shabir Ally) ‘O Shaykh, he memorizes gospel, he calls the Christians and debates with them from their books, is this permissible?

[Q4]: There is a group, a society named ‘al-Qurʾān wa-al-Sunnah Society’; this society cooperates with ‘Ansār al-Sunnah’ (they used to cooperate with them).  They bring their scholars (to the conferences) that they establish every year and if these Scholars (of Ansārus-Sunnah and Muḥammadiyyah) are asked about al-Ikhwān Muslimīn or the heads of them such as Ḥasan al-Banná́, they treat these questions as unmanageable. We desire for you to explain to us about Ansār al-Sunnah and Muḥammadiyyah and has this name came in the Book and the Sunnah? [Note: It is important to point out that al-Qurʾān wa-al-Sunnah Society no longer affiliates with Ansār al-Sunnah or Muḥammadiyyah. At the time these questions were presented, they did. The question still serves as a benefit to unveil the reality of these deviant organizations.]

[Q5]: There is a masjid (Khālid Ibn al-Walīd), in their midst are ignorant people (i.e. Bashīr Shill) who (the people) consider them to be Scholars. They (i.e. Afrāz Baksh) defame and speak ill of Shaykh Rabīʿ. They bring heads of the Ikhwān al-Muslimīn to their masjid. (some people say) The truth is that this is the closest masjid to the Sunnah. What is your advice to them?

[Q6]: The Islamic centres in Canada collect money from Zakāt al-Fitr on the pretence of sending it to the Muslim countries, what is the ruling on this?

[Q7]: The things eaten in Canada are sometimes made of pork extracts; some of the Muslims don’t give great importance to this, what is the ruling on eating such things?

[Q8]: There are Salafī sisters in Canada who want to get married to men who are Ikhwānī, Ṣūfī, Tablīghī, ignorant or new Muslims. To the point which they say, ‘the Salafīyyīn have no manners’. Are manners better than knowledge (in this case)?

[Q9]: A woman entered a Canadian university for a four-year period. She accepted a (interest-based) loan from the government amounting to $4000. She later came to know that this is ḥarām. Should she pay this loan or make ḥijrah (migrate)?
