The Impermissibility of Saying “In shāʾ Allāh” in a Duʿāʾ

Shaykh Mūsá Richardson

A number of aḥādīth indicating the impermissibility of saying in shāʾ Allāh  (if Allāh wills), or in shiʾta (if You will), in supplications to Allāh. Rather one should be firm in his request as Allāh does as he wills, and no one can force him to do anything.

In the summer of 2008, our brother Mūsá Richardson taught kitāb al-tawḥīd from the Ṣaḥīḥ of Imām al-Bukhārī. We picked up a significant benefit in the actions of supplications. When we call on Allāh for something and make a duʿāʾ, we are to be firm in this supplication and we must not say, in shāʾ Allāh (if Allāh wills).

ie. “O Allāh, give me a righteous wife, in shāʾ Allāh”.

Verily Allāh is the all-hearing and He does as He pleases.
