Verily in the Creation Are Signs

Shaykh Abū Ḥakīm

Stated ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (raḍī Allāhu ʿanhu), ‘Indeed the dunyā is travelling away from us and the hereafter is coming towards us, and for both of them they have children, so be from the children of the hereafter and do not be from the children of the dunyā because today is action and no reckoning and tomorrow is reckoning and no action.’

A khuṭbah outlining many ayaat in the Qurʾān in which Allāh, the might and majestic invokes mankind and jinn to reflect upon the signs of Allāh from his creation. An excellent admonition to the disbelievers, an important lesson for those who wish to call to Allāh upon baṣīrah (insightful knowledge).

Allāh, the Mighty and Sublime said,

“Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding.”
[Sūrah Āl ʿImrān, 3:190]

And,

“Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, and the ships which sail through the sea with that which is of use to mankind, and the water (rain) which Allāh sends down from the sky and makes the earth alive therewith after its death, and the moving (living) creatures of all kinds that He has scattered therein, and in the veering of winds and clouds which are held between the sky and the earth, are indeed Ayaat (proofs, evidences, signs, etc.) for people of understanding.”
[Sūrah al-Baqarah, 2:164]

Our noble brother, Abū Ḥakīm expounds, ‘All of these are signs for people who reflect, for people who perceive, for people who utilise their ‘aql (sense) and as we have mentioned in other than this occasion that the place of the ‘aql with ahl al-ʿilm and that which the scholars have established is not only in the mind, the place of the ‘aql and the origin of the ‘aql is in the heart.’

…Abū Ḥakīm continues, ‘…So the hearts of mankind is the ʿaṣl of perception and it is by way of the hearts of mankind that they perceive and reflect upon the ayaah.

“And on the earth are signs for those who have Faith with certainty.”
[Sūrah al-Dhāriyāt 51:20]

“When the earth is shaken with its (final) earthquake. And when the earth throws out its burdens, And man will say: “What is the matter with it?” That Day it will declare its information (about all what happened over it of good or evil). Because your Lord has inspired it. That Day mankind will proceed in scattered groups that they may be shown their deeds. So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom (or a small ant), shall see it.”
[Sūrah al-Zalzalah, 99]

‘Stated ʿAlī Ibn Abī Ṭālib (raḍī Allāhu ʿanhu), ‘Indeed the dunyā is travelling away from us and the hereafter is coming towards us, and for both of them they have children, so be from the children of the hereafter and do not be from the children of the dunyā because today is action and no reckoning and tomorrow is reckoning and no action.’
