If You Sit with Ahl al-Bidʿah You Stand Against the Sunnah
It was said to al-Awzāʿī (d. 157 AH) :
A man says: I sit with the people of the Sunnah and I sit with the people of innovation.
Al-Awzāʿī replied: This is a man who wants to equate truth with falsehood.
Ibn Baṭṭah (d. 387 AH) commented:
Al-Awzāʿī spoke the truth. I say: This is a man who does not know the truth from falsehood, nor belief from disbelief. For people like this, the Qur’ān was revealed and the Sunnah of al-Muṣṭafā (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was transmitted.
Allāh the Most High said:
وَإِذَا لَقُوا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا ۖ وَإِذَا خَلَوْا۟ إِلَىٰ شَيَـٰطِينِهِمْ ق…

Abandon Three Things to Taste the Sweetness of Worship
It is reported from Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (رحمه الله) that he said:
“Verily, in this dunyá there is a paradise, and whoever does not enter that paradise will not enter the Paradise of the Hereafter.”
The scholars explain that paradise in the worldly life is the sweetness of worship. Many of us may ask: When will we truly taste this sweetness, though we worship Allāh day after day, some of us for 20, 30, 40, or even 50 years?
Reflect upon the words of the Salaf, those who tasted this sweetness and entered this paradise of the dunyá. And perhaps, by Allāh’s mercy, He will allow us to…

Status Is a Nonfactor in Seeking the Truth
When the Messenger of Allāh (صلى الله عليه وسلم) consulted ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib (رضي الله عنه) during the famous incident of the slander—at a time when revelation was delayed—ʿAlī, despite being among the most knowledgeable of the Companions, did not hesitate to defer to someone who had more direct knowledge of the matter. He suggested that Barīrah, the servant of ʿĀʾishah (رضي الله عنها), be questioned regarding the situation. He did not rely on his own limited knowledge to pass judgment, rather he pointed to the one who had better insight into the affair.
Anyone who is consulted about a mat…

Three Comprehensive Points of Advice for Religious and Worldly Satisfaction
Narrated from Ibn ʿAwn who said:
“There were three directives which the people of righteousness, upon meeting one another, would advise and counsel towards. Even when residing far apart, they would record these three pieces of advice, sending them in letters to each other. They are:
Those whose attention is focussed on seeking the reward of the hereafter by enacting deeds of righteousness will find that Allāh will satisfy his worldly needs..
Whoever seeks to rectify his relationship with Allāh by performing his religious duties in a correct, exemplary manner will find Allāh a sufficient…

What Is Taqwá and How Can It Be Achieved?
The intent behind the taqwá of Allāh, is to worship Allāh and perform those actions which are beloved to Allāh, and to abstain from the actions which are hated by Allāh. Talq ibn Ḥabīb mentioned mentioned: “Taqwá is to act upon the obedience of Allāh upon light from Allāh seeking and hoping for His reward, and it is to stay away from being disobedient to Allāh upon light from Allāh (i.e. knowledge) and keeping away from His punishment”.
Taqwá is of three levels:
That a person does what Allāh and His Messenger has commanded him with;
With the regard to the first, then the most important of…

The Remedy for the Muslim Ummah
There will be no unity nor power for the Muslims unless they return to acting in accordance with the Book of Allāh and Sunnah of His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) while abandoning whatever opposes it, especially as it relates to fundamental matters of creed. Allāh says:
وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا
“Hold fast to the rope of Allāh, altogether, and be not divided among yourselves.”
(Āl-ʿImrān, 3:103)
Truly, the latter generations of this ummah will not be rectified except by that which rectified its earlier generations [i.e., acting in accordance with the Qurʾān an…

The Believer Will Enter Paradise by the Mercy of Allāh
A person may only enter Paradise by the mercy of Allāh. Despite acting as a means, the actions of the servant alone cannot be used to enter it. In analysis of this, Allāh mentions the servant entering Paradise because of his actions in His saying:
ادْخُلُوا الْجَنَّةَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
“Enter you Paradise, because of (the good) which you used to do (in the world).”
(Al-Nahl, 16:32)
Nonetheless, the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) negated a servant being able to enter Paradise because of his actions alone in his saying: “None among you shall enter Paradise because of his actions [alone]…
