Anonymous Doubts – Shaykh ʿUbayd: “Throw It in the Bin”

In the Name of Allāh, the Ever Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy
A question posed to Ustādh ʿAbdu-ilāh Laḥmāmī whereby he recounts how the noble scholar, ʿUbayd al-Jābirī, dealt with an anonymous letter flung over his wall. The unsigned letter was filled with accusations against established Salafī callers. The noble scholar said: throw it in the bin. It is noted that the so-called scales of justice of these anonymous claimants involves being silent about every enemy of the salafī daʿwah whilst being vicious towards Ahl al-Sunnah. The noble speaker challenges those with claims to bring them forth (like men), be just and upright and show your face and speak openly. Arrogant oppressors who harm themselves.
[Q]: In this era of digital gossip and rumourmongering, some Salafis are brought rumours and slanders and listen to them or pass them on verbatim to others. When they are asked “who said this to you”, they say “there’s no need for names” or “I don’t want to say”. Can you tell us if this is the correct approach when dealing with doubts, how do the scholars handle doubts, rumours etc. that come to them without a chain?
