Ibn Bāz Concerning the Algerian Affair and Additional Guidelines on Terrorism and Revolt
Al-ʿAllāmah ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Bāz
And if anyone from amongst the callers in Algeria said about me that I said to them, ‘Assassinate the police, or use weapons in the call to Allāh,’ then this is wrong. It is not true. Rather, it is a lie! The daʿwah (call) is merely to be done with good manners: ‘Allāh said,’ and ‘His Messenger said.’ It is to be done by reminder, admonition, encouraging and warning.
The Shaykh states “And if anyone from amongst the callers in Algeria said about me that I said to them, ‘Assassinate the police, or use weapons in the call to Allāh,’ then this is wrong, it is not true. Ayyūb as-Sakhtiyaanee would call all of the people of innovation: Khawārij, and he would say, “Verily the Khawārij differ in their names, but they are agreed upon the usage of the sword.”
The Shaykh also mentioned “As for daʿwah by assassinations, fighting or striking, then this is not from the Sunnah of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), nor from the Sunnah of his Companions.”
The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, “Verily rifq (gentleness) does not exist in something, except that it beautifies it. And it is not taken out of something, except that it harms it.”
