Refuting the Atheists: The Creation of the Human Being Proves the Existence of Allāh
Imām ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Nāṣir al-Saʿdī
Imām ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Nāṣir al-Saʿdī (d. 1391 AH) said:
Some of the atheists once said to one of the scholars of Islām: What is your Lord known by?
He replied: This drop of semen that the large male animals of every species deposit within the womb of their females that Allāh then allows to develop through stages from a drop to a blood clot to a small lump of flesh until the last of its stages of development. Such that it becomes a proportional human being, with fully developed, apparent and unapparent appendages and organs. He possesses the ability to hear sound, the ability to see occurrences, and an intellect that he uses to guide his personal interests. He possesses two hands with which he exerts his power and also uses them to carry out minute, detail-oriented tasks. He has two legs that he uses to walk, and many organs which have been created for a litany of other well-known requirements. His body has openings that facilitate entry of that which nourishes and excretion of that which harms. It has been formed in this amazing, awe-inspiring way which if the entire creation were to come together with the sole purpose of attempting to reproduce this amazing, ordered, composition—to create a single individual—they would find their knowledge and ability sorely lacking in the fulfilment of such a task. Is this not clear evidence of the existence of the Creator, His Greatness and Oneness?
I [Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saʿdī] say: Allāh has mentioned this methodology of reasoning in His Book in a variety of ways.
