The Farewell Advice of Imām al-Shāfiʿī to Imām al-Muzanī from His Deathbed

Shaykh Mūsá Richardson

The farewell advice given by Imām al-Shāfiʿī (raḥimahullāh) to his student Imām al-Muzanī, from his deathbed.

Muḥammad ibn Idrīs al-Shāfiʿī (d. 204AH) (raḥimahullah) was from the most beneficial scholars of this Ummah who clung tenaciously to the Book of Allāh and the Sunnah of the Messenger Muḥammad (ṣallallāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and authored a number of extremely beneficial treatises. In this khuṭbah, our respected elder and teacher, Abūl ʿAbbās Mūsá Richardson (ḥafiẓahullāh) narrates the advice of Imām al-Shāfiʿī (raḥimahullāh) from his death bed to his most devout and dedicated student, Ismaʿīl ibn Yaḥyá al- Muzanī (raḥimahullāh) who would go on to live 60 years beyond this day of advice, becoming an exemplary scholar who represented the teachings, beliefs and rulings of Imām al-Shāfiʿī, and author of the famous work Sharḥ al-Sunnah.
