I met Ṭāwūs and I said, ‘So and so narrated to me such and such.’ He said, ‘If your companion was trustworthy then take from him.’

Ishāq Ibn Ibrāhīm al-Handhalī narrated to us: ’ʿĪsá Ibn Yūnus related to us: al-Awzaa‘ee narrated to us from Sulaymān Ibn Mūsá who said, “I met Ṭāwūs and I said,  ‘So and so narrated to me such and such.’ He said, ‘If your companion was trustworthy then take from him.”

And Muḥammad Ibn ʿAbdullāh said: al-ʿAbbās Ibn Abī Riznah narrated to me he said: I heard ʿAbdullāh say, “Between us and the people is the isnād.”

And Abū Bakr Ibn al-Nadr Ibn Abī al-Nadr narrated to me he said: Abū al-Nadr Hāshim Ibn al-Qāsim said: Abū ʿAqīl narrated to us saying, “I was sitting with al-Qāsim Ibn ’ʿUbaydullāh and Yahyá Ibn Saʿīd. So Yahyá said to al-Qāsim, “O Abā Muḥammad! Indeed, it is ugly that the likes of you be asked about an affair of the Religion and there is not found with you knowledge of it.’ Said al-Qāsim, ‘And why is that.’ He said, ‘Because you are a from the two imāms of guidance Ibn Abī Bakr and ʿUmar.’ al-Qāsim said to him, ‘What is uglier than that, with one who Allāh has given intellect, is that I speak without the knowledge or take knowledge on other than one who is trustworthy.’ He said, ‘So he was quiet and did not answer.’”
