Three Comprehensive Points of Advice for Religious and Worldly Satisfaction
Imām Ibn Abī Shaybah
Advice the righteous would consistently give to one another to attain success in this life and the next.
Narrated from Ibn ʿAwn who said:
“There were three directives which the people of righteousness, upon meeting one another, would advise and counsel towards. Even when residing far apart, they would record these three pieces of advice, sending them in letters to each other. They are:
- Those whose attention is focussed on seeking the reward of the hereafter by enacting deeds of righteousness will find that Allāh will satisfy his worldly needs..
- Whoever seeks to rectify his relationship with Allāh by performing his religious duties in a correct, exemplary manner will find Allāh a sufficient protector from any harm directed to him from mankind.
- Whoever rectifies his internal thoughts and private behaviour and habits will find that Allāh will rectify his external, visible actions.”
