Who Are the Salaf?
The Salaf are the Companions and their followers.
Allāh, the Most High, has said:
رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ ﴿١٠﴾
“Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who have preceded us in īmān.”
[al-Ḥashr, 59:10]
When Allāh mentioned the Muhājirīn (from Makkah, the earliest companions) and the Anṣār (who hosted them in Madīnah) in Sūrah al-Ḥashr, He said:
وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ ﴿١٠﴾
“…And those who come after them, those who say: ‘Our Lord! Forgive us an…

Understanding Differences
The noble shaykh gives a very informative lecture concerning the evils of splitting and differing, drawing upon evidence from the Qurʾān, Sunnah and statements of the Scholars. It is obligatory to know that differing is something which Allāh has decreed and will happen. The people of differing are a people of disobedience, and the people who are enveloped by the Mercy of Allāh are the Jamāʿah. Though they may be separated by land and in their physical bodies, they are one Jamāʿah. However, the people of splitting and differing are a people of disobedience, and though they may be in the sam…

The Origin of Jahannam’s Extreme Temperatures
Every believer is aware of the existence of Jannah and Jahannam, for there are numerous verses and countless authentic reports that mention their existence. Allāh said:
وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ
“Those who believe and do righteous deeds are Jannah’s inhabitants.”
[al-Baqarah, 2:82]
He also said:
وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ
“Those who disbelieve in their Lord will face Jahannam’s punishment.”
[al-Mulk, 67:6]
Similarly, most believers are aware of Jahannam’s raging fire which was prepared for the transgressors. Allā…

Attaining Happiness and Removing Stress
Imām ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saʿdī (d. 1376 AH) said: “From among the means of attaining happiness and removing stress [in the future] and sadness [about what has already transpired], is to proactively remove all conduits of despair and to work for the attainment of that which brings about happiness. This is achieved through forgetting about the calamity that has occurred. For truly such things cannot be reversed. The realisation that busying the mind with those calamities is both an exercise in futility and an attempt to achieve the impossible, and as such will lead to idiocy and mania. Thus, an i…

Fasting in Winter Is an Easily Acquired Reward
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Fasting in winter is an easily acquired booty.” (Reported by Aḥmad, al-Bayhaqī, al-Tabarānī, Ibn ‘Adī, Ibn ʿAsākir and others, and Shaykh al-Albānī graded it authentic.)
Since the winter days are shorter and cooler than the other days of the year, a Muslim can fast the winter days easily.
Ibn Rajab (رحمه الله) stated: “Indeed, the believer is able to fast the days of winter without difficulty or being troubled by hunger and thirst because its days of fasting are short and cold, so the difficulty of fasting is unnoticeable.” (Laṭāʾif al-Maʿārif, pg. 326)

Conditions for the Acceptance of Actions
An action is not accepted by Allāh the Blessed and the Exalted, except if it contains two conditions:
Firstly: It should be done purely for the Face of Allāh the Mighty and Majestic.
Secondly: It should be righteous and it cannot be righteous, except if it is established from the sunnah, without opposing it. It has been confirmed by the researchers from the people of knowledge that every alleged act of worship that the Prophet (ﷺ) did not legislate by his statement, or which he did not perform in order to get closer to Allāh – is in opposition to the sunnah. So the sunnah consists of…

The Reality of Happiness and Despair for a Believer
Imām ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saʿdī said:1 “The Prophet (ﷺ) has related to us that the believer is able to multiply his earnings, his goodness, and the rewards of his actions, with regards to whatever befalls him whether happiness or despair. Thus, an agent of goodness or evil may come to two individuals, but they differ widely in how they are able to cope. This difference correlates with their īmān and righteous deeds. For someone with these two qualities can meet both good and evil with thankfulness and patience and what delineates from these two [characteristics]. Consequently, this individual is…
