Truly, Allāh created both man and jinn for the sole purpose of worshipping Him alone, as Allāh—the Most High—said:

وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

“And I did not create the jinn and men except to worship Me (alone).”
[Al-Dhāriyāt, 51:56]

It is only by means of this worship that mankind and jinn truly gain nobility and honour in this worldly life and the hereafter. For they are all in need of their Lord, unable to forgo His aid even momentarily, while He is not in need of them nor their worship. As Allāh—the Most High—said:

إِن تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنكُمْ

“If you disbelieve, then verily, Allāh is not in need of you.”
[Al-Zumar, 39:7]

He—the Most High—also said:

وَقَالَ مُوسَىٰ إِن تَكْفُرُوا أَنتُمْ وَمَن فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ لَغَنِيٌّ حَمِيدٌ

“And Moses said, ‘If you should disbelieve, you and whoever is on the earth entirely—indeed, Allāh is Free of need, Owner of all Praise.’”
[Ibrāhīm, 14:8]

Worship is Allāh’s deserved right over His creation and the benefactors of this worship are only the creation themselves. Whoever refuses to worship Allāh is considered arrogant. Whoever directs any form of worship to any deity alongside Allāh is considered a mushrik (polytheist). Whoever worships Allāh alone—but in a manner that is discordant with His legislation—is considered an innovator. Only those who worship Allāh alone while conforming to His legislation are considered true believers and monotheists.

Moreover, due to the servants’ dependency on worship and their inherent inability to self-orient themselves upon the (correct) methodology congruent with Allāh’s religion, he did not forsake them. Instead, he sent them messengers with revelation to clarify how to worship Him. The Most High said:

وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَّسُولًا أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ

“And We certainly sent to every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): ‘Worship Allāh and avoid Ṭāghūt (false leaders and deities).’”
[Al-Naḥl, 16:36]

And He—the Most High—said:

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا مِن قَبْلِكَ مِن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا نُوحِي إِلَيْهِ أَنَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا أَنَا فَاعْبُدُونِ

“We did not send any Messenger before you (O’ Muḥammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) except that We inspired him (saying): ‘None has the right to be worshipped but I, so worship Me (alone).’”
[Al-Anbiyāʾ, 21: 25]

Considering this, those who oppose the worship of Allāh (as clarified by the messengers and their respective scriptures), have strayed from Allāh’s path, worshipping him upon personal whims and desires, that which has been made fair-see ming to them by the devils among jinn and mankind.^[1] Their worship, in reality, is not worship of Allāh, but only of their own desires, concerning whom, Allāh says:

وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِّنَ اللَّهِ

“And who is more astray than one who follows his own lusts, without guidance from Allah?”
[Al-Qaṣaṣ, 28:50]
