The Importance of Learning Arabic

Al-ʿAllāmah Muqbil bin Hādi Al-Wādi’ī

A short yet strong reminder for the muslims to strive in learning the Arabic language.

We advise all of our brothers from among Ahl al-Sunnah—may Allāh bless them— to strive with diligence, firm seriousness and earnestness in teaching their brothers the Arabic language. Start with the simple, easily comprehensible books like Al-Tuḥfat al-Sunniyyah and Mutammimat al-Ajrūmiyyah. Allow students the chance to fully comprehend the content of these books until they—all praise be to Allāh—have advanced their understanding and thoroughly derived benefit from them.

In tandem with this, encourage their handwriting development as it will further reinforce and assist the Arabic already learnt. I strongly urge the implementation of this directive both for my younger and elder brothers alike. As for those who have already proven their handwriting ability through exams, they are considered exempt. Otherwise, I implore everyone to develop this skill. We seek—by Allāh’s will— to firmly establish and perfect our knowledge-base using Arabic language and handwriting, supplemented with the science of grading ḥadīth and its associated terminology, and recitation of the Qurʾān. For our knowledge of these disciplines facilitate the rageful perishing of our enemies [woefully unable to sway us from our religion].

And all praise is deservedly for Allāh.
