Reciting Verses Relative to the Khuṭbah Topic During Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah Instead of Those Recited by the Messenger (ﷺ)

Al-ʿAllāmah Ṣāliḥ ibn al-Fawzān

The chapters: al-Aʿlā, al-Gāshiyah, al-Jumuʿah and al-Munāfiqūn should be recited during Ṣalāt al-Jumuʿah.

May Allāh treat you well, O Eminent Father; a questioner asks:

[Q]: What is the ruling on the one who delivers the Friday sermon reciting within the prayer, verses which appropriately fit the topic of the sermon and taking this as his regular practice in every Khuṭbah?

[A]: Do you mean that he recites thus in the Ṣalātul-Jumuʿah or at the end of the Khuṭbah? If what is meant is that he recites this in the Ṣalātul-Jumuʿah, then this has not been legislated nor has it been narrated (from the Prophet) (صلى الله عليه وسلم). That which has been narrated is that he should recite:

سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى
“Glorify the Name of your Lord the Exalted.”
[Aʿlā, 87:1]

and al-Gāshiyah or al-Jumuʿah and al-Munāfiqūn. This is what has been narrated, and it is not proper for him to recite that which corresponds with (the topic of) the Khuṭbah. This is proper within the Khuṭbah, that he recites from the Qurʾān that which appropriately suits the (topic) of the Khuṭbah; within the Khuṭbah itself, yes. As for the prayer, then (the recitation therein) is not to be restricted to the subject matter of the Khuṭbah.
