Pre-meditation or possessing a clear intention is among the prerequisites of performing wuḍūʾ [ritual ablution]. This pre-meditation often becomes routine or habitual when performing wuḍūʾ repeatedly. Considering this, there is a magnanimous matter herein that deserves the reader’s attention. This is that one should be cognizant—when undertaking any act of worship— that he is enacting a command of Allāh. Mindfulness of this is a means towards the attainment of true sincerity to Allāh in that act. Likewise, one should contemplate and be mindful of the fact that the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) performed that act before him, and that he is only following his example. For this is a means towards actualising the emulation of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم). As all acts of worship may only be deemed correct by the fulfillment of two prerequisites:

  1. Complete sincerity to Allāh.
  2. Emulation of the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

The fulfillment of these two prerequisites is a manifestation of the testimony that there is nothing worshipped in truth besides Allāh and that Muḥammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the Messenger of Allāh.
