Knowledge of the unseen is extremely vast, and Allāh, The All Knowledgeable, may occasionally choose to reveal some of it to some of His Prophets and Messengers who may then relay it to us. Allāh said about Himself: عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَدًا ‎﴿٢٦﴾‏ إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِن رَّسُولٍ “He is the Knower of the unseen. He only discloses it to selected Messengers.” [al-Jinn, 72:26-27] Believing in any revealed knowledge of the unseen then becomes a part of faith. Saʿd ibn Muʿādh (رضي الله عنه) was a revered Companion. He was from the Anṣār as he was from the Aws tri…

The [Prophet] (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: ‘Allāh said: ‘I am as my slave thinks I am [towards him]. I am with him when he remembers me. If he remembers me by himself, I remember him within myself. If he remembers me before an assembly, I remember him in an assembly greater than it.’ Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī Al-Shawkānī [d. 1250 AH] commented: (I am with him when he remembers me): This explicitly proves that Allāh the Glorified, the High, is with His slaves [in His knowledge] should they remember Him. This necessitates that He specifies them with His Mercy, and supports them with His guidance and th…

[Q]: If it is not obligatory upon a child to perform ṣalāh, why did the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) order the people to instruct their sons and daughters to perform ṣalāh by completion of the age of seven [i.e. the beginning of year eight1], and to beat them2 if they do not perform it by the age of ten?3 Does a person deserve to be beaten for an act that is not obligatory upon them anyways? [A]: The father has only been ordered to command his child to pray, and to beat him if he does not, as a way of perfecting and completing the care and attention he must show towards his children. As it r…

Fanaticism is divided into two categories: Fanaticism towards personalities: for example, the Christians towards ʿĪsāʾ ibn Maryam. Likewise, the fanaticism of the Shīʿah towards ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and his descendants, etc. Fanaticism towards ideologies: this is more dangerous than the previous type of fanaticism because fanaticism towards personalities only destroys the fanatic, but fanaticism towards ideologies destroys the religion, societies, countries, and nations — it destroys everything. This is like the fanaticism of the corrupt Khawārij terrorists; if their ideology is found with…

Imām al-Bukhāri (رحمه الله) said: Narrated by Anas (رضي الله عنه): A man asked the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) concerning the Hour, saying: “When is the Hour?” He replied: “What have you prepared for it?” He said: “Nothing except for the fact that I love Allāh and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم).” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) replied: “You will be with those who you love.” Anas said: “There was nothing that made us happier than the happiness we felt because of the saying of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم): “You will be with those you love.” Anas said: “As I love the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وس…

[Q]: Firstly, I love you for the sake of Allāh and I ask Allāh to preserve you just as He preserves all of His righteous servants. Here (in France), the French Government is appealing to the Salafis for their cooperation in capturing the Takfirists. In all actuality they are requesting that we work alongside them to catch these individuals. Is this something that the religion of Islām deems permissible or not? May Allāh bless you. [A]: Truthfully, the Takfirists are considered to be enemies of Islām and enemies of the Muslims as they are responsible for actions that have harmed the Muslims…

If a prohibition reaches you, then refrain from it, and ask not whether it is impermissible or disliked. Likewise, if a command reaches you, then act accordingly and ask not whether it is obligated or recommended. When the Companions (رضي الله عنهم) were commanded by the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) they would not say, “O Messenger of Allāh, did you mean it to be an obligation or was it a recommendation?” Rather they would carry out the commandment instantly. My advice to every believer is that if a commandment from the commandments of Allāh and His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) reaches the…
